How To Install Vinyl Flooring On Walls?

Straight and Simple! When installing vinyl flooring on walls, let me tell you one thing: you can install vinyl flooring on your wall on your own. Even though I did it on my own, it was not that hard. I think anyone with the basic know-how of tools and Physics can do it.

Tools needed in the installation of vinyl flooring on walls.

You must need these tools to install vinyl flooring on your own.

  • Nail Gun for pasting the hardboard sheets
  • Inch-tape to measure the lengths
  • Pencil to mark it
  • A Saw for cutting vinyl planks
  • A Hammer
  • A Pry bar
  • A Laser leveler
  • A Chalk line
  • A Stud finder (electronic)
  • A Pull bar
  • A Step ladder (if needed)

The material used in the installation of vinyl flooring on walls

  • Vinyl Flooring for walls ( 10% extra than measured)
  • Adhesive for vinyl flooring
  • Hardboard sheets as a smooth subfloor for vinyl
  • Primer for the current wall
  • 5 to 1.3-inch brad nails
  • 5 inch to 1.3-inch drywall screws
  • Wall base and quarter round moldings to frame out the accent walls
  • Tape

Safety tools used in the installation of vinyl flooring on walls

  • Safety glasses
  • A dust masks
  • Gloves

Here are some steps to install vinyl flooring on walls.

1- Check the level of the wall

To install vinyl flooring on the wall, check its level. It must be (1&1/3 inches) straight over ten feet to install vinyl flooring on it. If it is not straight, you must correct the unevenness before installing the vinyl flooring on it.

A flat wall is necessary because it will cause unevenness, which will lead to a horrible experience, so correct the wall level before installing vinyl flooring on it.

What Causes Yellow Stains On Vinyl Flooring

2- Remove all the base and trim moldings for the wall

Use your pry bar to remove all the base and trim molding from the wall to install vinyl flooring over it peacefully.

3- Find the studs on the wall

Now, use your electronic stud finder to locate the stud on the wall and then mark vertical lines on all the studs with a pencil and use painter’s paint to extend the stud location on the ceiling.

Disclaimer: Keep your electricity power turned off, and don’t make any contact with electric switches and wires while installing vinyl flooring on the wall.

4- Apply primer to the wall

Apply primer to the wall to make all the wounds smooth and even for the best installation of vinyl flooring on that wall

5- Attaching Hardboard

After applying the primer, you’ll notice that the wall will get smooth and even. It’s time to paste the hardboard over it using the nail gun to make a smooth subfloor for the vinyl flooring.

6- Bring out the Vinyl planks

Would you please take out the vinyl planks flooring and ensure that it doesn’t have any damage? After removing all the wrappers from your brand-new vinyl planks, select enough vinyl planks to create the first row on the bottom of the wall.

Please place it in such a position that its decor size is upward, the groove side is toward the wall, and click the vinyl planks together.

After this:

  • Measure the length of vinyl plank needed with a measuring tape.
  • Leave a 3/16-inch gap with walls.
  • Cut the extra planks with a saw.

7- Pasting the vinyl plank on the wall

Now down the cut vinyl plank in such a position that the decor side is downward, and the tongue side is toward the wall. You may need the assistance of someone in this process for straight and even installation of vinyl planks and make sure the vinyl plank is perfectly straight.

8- Applying the adhesive

Apply the adhesive on the vinyl plank to glue it along the wall. After applying the adhesive, quickly paste it on the wall and attach the brat nail through the groove of the vinyl plank at each stud on the wall.

Attach the drywall screw at each vinyl plank lying on the bottom and top of the wall to make a permanent stronghold.

9- Repeat the process for second and onwards rows of vinyl flooring

On the second and onwards row, apply the vinyl plank from the right side of the wall and go from left to right. Eventually, you may need a stepladder to reach the height for installing a vinyl plank near the ceilings.
